BETH GIBBS / BEPHIE
“When people dress for themselves, that’s where creativity and originality really show.” Those are the words of designer and stylist Beth Gibbs, and this philosophy strongly explains her style the point of view of her line, Bephie. As a New York transplant who now resides in Los Angeles (and co-owner and Creative Director of streetwear mecca Union), Beth has long been inspired the black experience of Southern California, but her eye has been deeply influenced by art as well.
Beth Birkett or Bephie as she is affectionately known as is budding Director in the world of short videos and commercials. Beth has been directing videos under the radar for the last 10 years.
Beth’s work has a distinctly feminist approach, and she thinks first of creating clothing for Black women. Moreover, her pieces are gender-neutral and meant to convey freedom of thought and freedom of movement, not just in one’s own body, but across a range of spaces. Each garment and accessory is made with the utmost quality, care, and attention to detail, in unique silhouettes and comfortable shapes. And like the world of streetwear that Beth comes from, Bephie is rooted in community.
Her most notable film NATIVE SON by Rashid Johnson is her most well known work.
